What Happens at Double Horn Ranches

Craig Cameron and Double Horn Ranch have a variety of horsemanship clinics that you and your horse can attend.  All clinics are designed to enhance knowledge and know how of horse and horsemanship skills.  Cameron’s “ridingest clinics of ‘em all” are intended to be fast moving, informative, fun and exciting for both horse and rider.  Some of the schools provided by the Craig Cameron equine system are Working Clinics, Advanced Clinics, Colt Starting Clinics, Cowboy Ranch Camp, and Cowboy Boot Camp.  The recommended but not mandatory progression is to start with the Working Clinic.

Working Clinics

The Craig Cameron Working Clinic starts out with Craig working individually with each rider and his mount in the small forty-five foot round corral.  Craig builds confidence for horse and rider by checking and progressing your ground-working skills such as ground driving, facing up, and desensitizing your horse, flexibility, position, and control.  There is also work on developing rider’s seat, balance, and effectiveness of hand and leg cues.

Included are longe line classes that teach you to send your horse over jumps, tarps, in and out of the trailer and through water.  Working Clinic participants are schooled in interesting forward movement exercises that develop coordination and control at all gaits beginning in the small round pens and progressing to the large round pens and arena.  From there, participants advance to the popular Craig Cameron challenge trails where they begin to hone new riding awareness and skills.  Working Clinics also teach the art of knot tying, hobbling problem solving, and liberty trailer loading where each student masters the technique of loading his or her horse into the trailer with no lead rope or halter.  Craig calls this clinic the Working Clinic because you get plenty of work and like all Craig Cameron schools—lots of riding!

Advanced Clinics

Advanced clinics are designed for the riders who wish to learn the technical and mechanical skills of advanced horsemanship maneuvers.  Small round pen work is eliminated in the advanced clinic and school starts for horse and rider in the large round pens and arena.  Throughout the school, Craig will always promote and prompt correct posture, use of hands, legs, balance, and rhythm of movement that develops oneness between horse and rider.  You will learn the where and why of a horse’s feet in all gaits.  You will be enlightened in the proper use of a hackamore and the snaffle bit.  The rider will also learn development of bits and bitting in the advanced bridle horse.

Students become aware of the importance of straightness and how to develop it in a horse.  There will be schooling in the art of circles, lead changes, stops, backing, roll-backs, lateral movement, and spins.  From Craig’s experience you will learn the methods and secrets to develop these advanced maneuvers.  Throughout the school you will be put to the test of these maneuvers in a working atmosphere on the exciting challenge trails.  Games and contests will be used at the end of each school to promote competition, fun, and accelerated learning.

Advanced clinics are designed to do just that:  advance, enhance, and teach you how to teach your horse the intricate moves of horsemanship.  Advance clinics allow you to educate your horse by first educating yourself!
